User Journey

Scene Selection Journey

Users can select one of the two scenes through an initial menu scene. They choose the breathing scene by saying "Sleepy!" or the humming scene by saying by saying "Awake!". Voice recognition is used to select the scene here to familiarise users with voice as the main interaction modality.

Breathing Scene

1. Instructions

Users recieve instructions on how to complete the breathing excercise and are specifically told to make a 'WHOOSH' sound as they breath out.

2. Breathe In and Hold

Users breath in for 4 seconds and holds for another 7 seconds. Various elements guide the user: a growing and shrinking ring, a counter, and an audio guide. These features are not interactive but prepare users interactivity when breathing out.

3. Hold For 7

3. Breathe Out

Users are asked to breathe out. As soon as the user starts making a 'WHOOSH' noise a breathing out animation is triggered: the ring grows around them and a counter counts down. The user has to hold the sound for the majority of the breath duration or else will have to restart. Particles are emitted from the user's mouth and hands in response to the microphone volume. This interactivity provides the user with a sense of agency as they breath out, visualising the force and feeling of breathing.

4. Fail Restart

If the user fails to hold their breath out long enough the ring turns red, and a failure voice message is played. The user has to restart the current breath.

5. Repeat Four Times

The user repeats the breathing excercise four times until they reach a restart or continue menu.

Humming Scene

1. Daylight

If the user sings a high pitched note the skybox lights up to a clear blue day and the environment lightens.

2. NightTime

If the user sings a deep note the sky darkens to a night sky and the surroundings darken. Fireflies appear which dance around the user's hands.
